Yes their "statehood" has been crushed, but the Russian approach has been shown not to work, Chechnya still resists albeit on a smaller scale. The excesses of the Sri Lankan government may yet create much bitterness that will lead to continuing resistance/insurgency by the Tamil population. The United States approach is also laughably ineffective, because it never learnt the proper lesson from Vietnam.
