		<description>As an article of political strategy, I don't think that's very sound. A significant portion of this (or any other) country will always vote according to identity, and any party that refuses to take this into account will hurt itself. Identity will always matter in politics - I just think, as a matter of principle, that it shouldn't.</description>

		<description>I follow your logic. It jibes fairly well with a discussion I had with a DA MP a few years back. I was pushing him on the point that the visible members of the DA - the leadership - were largely white, which was hardly the best electoral strategy. His argument was that the DA was a liberal party, and was focused on offering the best possible administration. To become a party of quotas and numbers would undermine their ideology, and it was better to continue to offer a principled liberal alternative than to start 'turning into' the ANC.</description>
